Its an eletromagnetic device( which can be remotely control via RF signal, the little box upon the amp) mainly responds to the "LFE" ( .1, low frequency channel, of 5.1 or 7.1), a bit like vibrating controller of PS or Xbox, only it doesnt vibrate on hands instead it vibrates the WHOLE couch.
