It's been way more than a month now since I first noticed that Restaurant Quito would 'soon be open' a few blocks away, so it shouldn't take much longer for them to really start doing business. Recently I saw some action going on inside... after a LONG time of 'nothing happening'... Man, these little mountain people are SLOW, lol. They should have opened that place already 2 weeks ago according to my feeling, they sure take their time...

Hope they ain't got problems with their investment, cz taking time like THIS in a busy street like THAT will cost them customers and therefore hard needed money to be able to pay for the high rent... (to give you an idea, the 3rd floor apartment of the middle building has been newly renovated and sells for €349.000)

Anyway - looking forward a LOT to eat something else than Turkish, Italian or Chinese for dinner. mmmmmmmmmA
*Good luck brave Quitorians, and welcome to the wet autumn! As soon you guys open, you'll have at least .,1,, customer for sure already - so you'd better serve some good meals. xD

hehehe - actually, I must say - they surely know how to pick a building with a history behind it. Next to the door is a stone inscription telling about the ice saloon which used to be there in the 1940's..

The text reads something like this:

"19 February 1941
Here used to be ice saloon Koco. Owners where the German-Jewish refugees E.Cahn and A. Kohn. Together with regular customers from the ice saloon, they formed the gang which on 19 february 1941 offered very sturdy resistance to the Germans. Cahn was arrested and became the first person to be shot in the Netherlands. This event would be followed up by two big razzia's held on 22 and 23 February amongst Jewish people in Amsterdam. These razzia's led to the big February Strike on 25 February, which was a huge protest demonstration against the German actions."
